# Invitation: The American Foreign Policy…  Human Rights and Democracy Issues

The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) in cooperation with the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED) and Heinrich Boll Stiftung – North America, would like to invite you to attend a joint seminar titled "The American Foreign Policy and Human Rights and Democracy Issues", which will be held on Wednesday, May 19th 2010, at the Cairo Institute, starting 11:00 am until 2:30 pm.

The seminar will be held to discuss the US policies towards the Middle East Countries, with a focus on human rights, democracy, governance, and civil society.
The seminar is held in association with issuing "The Federal Budget and Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2011: Democracy, Governance, and Human Rights in the Middle East" report, authored by POMED’s Stephen McInerney. The report examines the Obama Administration’s budget request and its implication for U.S. policy in the region.

The Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to examining how genuine democracies can develop in the Middle East and how the U.S. can best support that process. Through dialogue, research, and advocacy, POMED aims to strengthen the constituency for U.S. policies that peacefully support democratic reform in the Middle East.

The seminar with contain 3 (three) sessions:

First Session 11:00 – 12:00 
Presenting "The Federal Budget and Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2011: Democracy, Governance, and Human Rights in the Middle East" report 
Moderator: Moataz El-Fegiery – Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies Executive Director

Speakers: 
Stephen McInerney – Director of Advocacy for the Project on Middle East Democracy 
Kristina Kausch – researcher at FRIDE Institute

Second Session 12:00 – 1:30 
The American Policies for Supporting Democracy in Egypt 
Moderator: Andrew Albertson – Executive Director for the Project on Middle East Democracy

Dr. Ahmed ElSayed ElNaggar – Head of the Economic Unit at AlAhram Center for Political and Strategic Studies 
Ahmed Samih – Executive Director for Andalus Institute for Tolerance and Anti-Violence Studies
