Modernity between the pasha and the general

In Educational Publications by CIHRS

The book includes a number of studies wrote by Dr. Ali Mabrouk over a decade without being freed from the question of the aborted modernity in the Arab world after the circle of two decades. The two experiences of militirazied modernity and politicized modernity occupied the space of the Arab practices over the past two decades, and to an extent, modernity seemed through them as if it transformed into a mere game between “the pasha” and “the general”. The writer follows the facades such a game/ modernity, not just by monitoring; but also by questioning, criticizing and piecing it. It is a book aiming at opening up new horizons for thinking about modernity away from the pasha or the general.
