Regional and Palestinian Organizations Submit Report on Israeli Apartheid to UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

In Arab Countries, International Advocacy Program by CIHRS

On 10 November 2019, The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) delivered a Joint Parallel Report to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) with Al-Haq, BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, Palestinian Center for Human Rights, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, Civic Coalition for Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem, and Habitat International Coalition (HIC) – Housing and Land Network (HLRN), ahead of Israel’s periodic review on 4 and 5 December 2019.

In a 58-page report, the organizations outlined how the Israeli government has established, maintained, and further entrenched a system of apartheid with the intention of ensuring the domination and oppression of the Palestinian people. In the submission, the organizations urged the UN Committee to declare that Israel has created and continues to maintain an institutionalized regime of racial domination and oppression over the Palestinian people, including Palestinians in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory as well as refugees and exiles abroad, noting that “only by examining Israeli policy toward the Palestinian people as a whole can we begin to undo the political, legal, and geographic fragmentation imposed on the Palestinian people that underpins Israel’s apartheid regime.”
