The meeting focused on current developments in Egypt in light of attempts to shut down the public sphere, as well as cases involving persons detained and imprisoned for exercising their right to peaceful protest and the ongoing attempts to curtail the right of freedom of association and the freedom to form civic associations.

The meeting also addressed recent threats to civil society, especially rights groups, the legal harassment of human rights defenders, and the reopening of the foreign funding case.

The six participating organizations included the CIHRS, the Egyptian Democracy Academy, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Liberties, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, and the Center for Egyptian Women’s Legal Support.
