The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) hosted a meeting yesterday for members of Mohamed El-Baradei’s campaign staff and representatives of six human rights organizations. Participants discussed the document outlining basic principles and rights proposed by El-Baradei, which would contain the core foundations of the Egyptian state to be approved by all social groups and included in the new constitution. A parallel debate on the document is also taking place between several presidential candidates and political party leaders.
The El-Baradei campaign had previously held preliminary discussions on a draft of the document with the CIHRS.
The following organizations participated in the meeting:
1. Arabic Network for Human Rights Information
2. Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies
3. Center for Trade Union and Workers’ Services
4. Egyptian Association for Community Participation Enhancement
5. Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights
6. Human Rights Center for the Assistance of Prisoners
