The “Identity” issue was and is still one of the most controversial issues in the Egyptian and Arab cultures. The author of the book presents his concept of identity and its most important problems by analyzing the concept of the religious culture that prevailed in Egypt before and after July 1952 Revolution (Coup) and how it has affected the national identity. In this respect the author provides a criticism of the most important figures that advocated Islamic nationalism such as Gama Ed-deen Al-Afghani. He also criticizes the role of the revolution leaders in supporting and promoting fundamentalism.
