The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies is pleased to invite you to attend a press conference on the release of the first annual report published by CIHRS on the human rights in the Arab World.
The Press conference will take place tomorrow, Friday 5th December 2008 at CIHRS office, at 10:30 am
The main goal of this report is to monitor and analyze manifestations of progress and decline in securing various rights and freedoms during the period of study that extends between September 2007 and October 2008. The report reviews the main developments in 12 Arab countries including
Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
The report, also, provides a unique analysis on the performance of Arab states before international human rights bodies in the United Nations Human Rights council, , as well as in the context of Euro-Mediterranean partnership and the role of the League of Arab states.
Finally the report exposes an analysis on the impact of the political and religious culture in the Arab World on the situation of human rights, with special focus on the internal dynamics and transformations within the islamist, liberal, leftish, pan-arabism trends and within the ruling elites itself as well as the effect of all that on the newly established coalitions inside the regimes and the oppositions from human rights perspective.
