The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies hosted a meeting today, Wednesday October 22, between the EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis and the human rights defender Alaa’ Abd El-Fattah.
The meeting, which ended a short while ago, addressed the state of human rights defenders in Egypt and the challenges that face their work at the present time. The meeting also addressed the status of detainees in prison, and included a discussion about the protest law and its implications for the right to peaceful assembly.
